‘Every master was once a beginner' This statement is so true and always applicable on one and all. Every person cannot be a master in any activity just from the first day. Being experienced in any field requires lots of days which are spent practicing. And every kind of experiments makes a person experienced. Pixean is a community of budding and amateur photographers and our family also include professional photographers. And we basically aim to help everyone who is a photography enthusiast to enhance their skill. Today we are talking about some of the basic camera setting mistakes which the beginners do while clicking the photograph. As we said, we are doing this to enhance your skills and also to let you know that by slight variations in the settings you could excel as a photographer and you could yourself see the changes in your photographs.

So, let us see some of the common camera setting mistakes made by the beginners.

CLICKING THE PICTURES WITH THE LOW SHUTTER SPEED

Using a shutter speed which is low will not always help you to click some great pictures. You need to move forward from using the low shutter speed. If you are shooting with a 50mm lens then your camera will be at 1/50th of a second to make sure that it is sharp. But when you use the 300 mm lens and use the zoom effects then the camera needs 1/300th of a second shutter speed to make the image look crisp and clear. So, the basic idea is that while you are zooming in while clicking the pictures you have to raise your ISO. And if you are capturing anything that is in motion then, you will need to prefer higher shutter speed. The reason is that when you will magnify the small area than at those area slight variations will always be visible.

UNABLE TO DECIDE THE RIGHT FOCUS POINT

The focus is the most important aspect of a photograph and photography. Every new photographer or someone who is learning photography, it an important note to make. You cannot let the camera decide the focal point because it is not the camera which is clicking the picture but it is the photographer's eye. It is you who see the beauty in a particular thing and you do efforts to click it. For example, you are clicking a person in front of a tower and your focus is the tower, then you have to keep the focal point high on the tower without making the person totally blur. It should be evident that you are clicking the tower along with the person but the focus or the main object is the tower. Also, it is always better to use f/4 instead of f/1.8 or may be f/2.8 because this reduces the focusing mistake very effectively.

STICKING TO KEEPING THE ISO LOW, ALWAYS

There are various ways or various kinds of settings for the ISOs. However, higher ISOs always tend to give nice pictures. But it all depends. If you are shooting with the camera on the tripod then you must keep the ISO level low as it is better in that case. And when you are not using the tripods then switching the ISO to the higher level is always very helpful. Also, ISO must depend according to the various light settings. You must have a different ISO level at the daytime and a different ISO level during the evening. While shooting in the manual mode you can take the camera off the auto ISO. So, keeping the ISO low at every scenario is probably one of the mistakes that you are making.

BEING UNAWARE OF EXPOSURE COMPENSATION

We always believe and also spread the fact every kind of light has its own beauty and there is a different trick to excel any kind of light photography. When there is tricky light and you are using aperture or the shutter priority mode, you need to try the exposure compensation. Also, not choosing the right meter mode can be one of the common camera setting mistakes which every new beginner does. There are also three main metering modes and they are center weighted, spot weighting and evaluative. Evaluative specializes for exposing the entire scene, center weighted specializes in exposing the spot on which the focal point is targeted and spot metering will measure the light based on only the spot.

NOT PROPERLY UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF IMAGE STABILIZER

We use tripods so that image is still and not blurry and somehow it makes us confident and also it makes half the work easy. But it is not always possible to shoot with the tripod. And when you are not shooting with the tripod, you should image stabilizer in your camera or your lens. This makes the photographs sharper and also it creates minor vibrations while keeping the camera steadier. But when you are using the tripods you must turn off the image stabilizer. The reason for this is it can make your image blur. So this is a very easy trick which you can always keep in mind and always avoid some common camera setting mistakes from the beginning. If you are using the tripod and still the photos come out to be blurry then the reason is probably that your camera settings have image stabilizer on.
